  • Trophy Red Stag Hunting on New Zealand’s North Island
The spine-tingling roar of the rutting Red Stag is deservedly one of the main draws to New Zealand!

While the Red Stag are of superb quality and size you’ll find that your outfitter believes the experience of the hunt is just as important as the size of the trophy, and they strive to exceed both expectations.

    Amazing Red Stag! Amazing Accommodations!
Whether you stay at the main lodge, evolved from an earlier era fishing camp; in the executive house, designed by a renowned New Zealand architect; or down on the river at the safari camp, immersed in the natural elements of New Zealand’s north island (guests often like to round out their experience here under the stars and close to nature), you will receive world class 5-star service and have opportunities at world class trophy Red Stag.

Tucked away in a secluded valley of New Zealand’s north island wilderness is the private 16,000 acre estate where serious hunters have a genuine shot at taking home the trophy Red Stag of their dreams. While the antlers are fully developed from February well into August hearing the roar of the rut, from mid March to mid April, brings a whole new dimension to the hunt. The hunters who come here are regularly guided onto 400 SCI Red Stags with some of the best on the estate exceeding 600 SCI.

The Red Stag bodies are massive and the antlers are huge but don’t overlook the other opportunities made available here; the Sika Deer were 1st liberated in New Zealand on this ranch in 1905. This valley continues to hold a substantial population and is arguably among the best free range Sika hunting in New Zealand. Rusa Stags, Fallow Bucks, Sambar, Arapawa Rams and the Feral Goats are all trophies worthy of pursuing as well.

    The Main Lodge
Once a rustic fishing camp this north island retreat has evolved into a world class premier sporting lodge. The atmosphere of a traditional hunting lodge has been maintained with elements of modern luxury and style incorporated to complement the spectacular views of the secluded valley it resides in.

The gourmet food at the lodge is based around local in-season game expertly prepared by a team of chefs who believe in locally sourced, uncluttered flavors.

    The Executive House
Nestled peacefully away from the stresses of the outside world this luxurious and tranquil retreat is situated on a secluded plateau overlooking the river below. Exquisitely designed and elegantly appointed, frequented by corporate leaders, celebrities and royalty this is the ultimate hunting retreat for corporate getaways or family gatherings.

    The Safari Camp
    Luxury camping anyone?

Just a few yards from the banks of a river you can enjoy scenic backcountry isolation while not forgoing the comfort and amenities provided at this retreat. Canvas roofed cabins, dining under the stars, falling asleep to the sounds of the nearby river – this is as close to roughing it as it gets here, however…you won’t go without crisp cotton sheets, hot and cold running water, flushing toilets, gourmet food and fine wine. You can have a fully catered kitchen or do the cooking yourself with everything you need provided.

    Hunting Season
The main hunting season is from late February until early August as this is when Red Stag, Sika and Fallow Deer are in hard antler. At this point the Rusa are grunting up a storm; this hunt will go on until December which is a popular time for a spring meat hunt. If you need to gear up properly for this hunt, it is available here. Ask us for details.

    Travel
The lodge is a 45 minute drive from the resort town of Taupo which has a small airport less than an hour flight from Auckland. From Taupo you can get to the resort by way of charter plane, helicopter, private driver or you can rent a vehicle from the airport and drive out (request directions when you book).

“You’ll come to love your guide. Not just because they’re on a first name basis with the best trophies, but because over the time you spend together and the stories you’ll share, you’ll begin to feel like family.”
