  • Elephant hunting takes place in the KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces.  Elephant tags in South Africa are strictly controlled by CITES. Contrary to the opinion of some, the elephant is not endangered and in fact several countries of Southern Africa have been forced to institute culling operations to keep their numbers in balance.

This is a Luxury Elephant Hunt

Elephants are generally hunted on foot, picking up and following fresh spoor at waterhole’s or across roads. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. You will stay in a luxury lodge and drive daily to the hunting area. In most African countries, an elephant hunt is very remote with basic accommodations.

Elephant hunting next to Kruger National Park (Limpopo, and Mpumalanga)

Elephant hunts are also available near Kruger Park, but they are controlled by National Park Regulations. On these hunts, you will be hunting on the private ground surrounding the park, but they are the same free ranging elephants that reside within the park.

In most of this area, you can only take bulls that weigh 35 pounds or less. However, if you would like to hunt a trophy elephant near Kruger, there are two isolated areas for bulls up to 75 pounds maximum, but there is a very small quota available and a very high demand. If you would like to hunt trophy elephant near Kruger National Park, you must book years in advance.

    Elephant hunting in KwaZulu-Natal

Most of the hunts in KwaZulu-Natal are conducted in large, private nature preserves which, in most cases, border National Parks. These hunts are often management hunts, but occasionally there are trophy bulls available with limits on the weight of the tusks.

All CITES animals do require proof of residence and a copy of your passport a minimum of 60 days prior to your hunt. This will give your outfitter time to obtain the proper permits.
