The Spider Bull

Spider Bull

If you like seeing big bull elk… and I’m sure you do, check out this monster bull found this summer in Utah. He has been dubbed The Spider Bull and some people think that he will score around 500 or so. Wow. His mass is awesome, and points are going everywhere, but his inside spread is average to small. Score aside, nobody can say that he isn’t amazing, and EVERYBODY is talking about him. To add to this drama, a lot of hunters know where he is and are planning on hunting him during archery season. We’ll keep you posted as the season progresses.

500 inches of antler! Utah produces potential new world-record elk. Meet the Spider Bull.

To add to the drama, the Utah DWR is wondering if the video of this bull is legit. None of their agents have seen him in the area he is said to roam.

The Spider Bull is Down!

Spider Bull
In early January 2009, North America’s authority on big-game records declared the Utah “Spider Bull” the new world record non-typical American elk.

On September 30, Denny Austad of Ammon, Idaho, hunted the Monroe Mountain District in south-central Utah. Austad paid for the Utah Governor’s Tag and was guided by MossBack Outfitters to the public-land giant on Sept. 30.

Guide Doyle Moss called the trophy “Spider Bull” for its antler configuration, which splayed out in all directions like a spider’s legs.

The “Spider” bull has a green score of 500 4/8 inches and nets 488. Incredible. The giant bull has 9 points on the left antler and 14 points on the right. The larger antler has a base circumference topping 9 inches. It is the only elk on record with a gross score approaching the 500-inch mark, at 499 3/8. Official data dates back to 1830, according to the record-keeping club.

Final Boone and Crockett Club Special Panel Score

The Spider bull has been officially scored by Rusty Hall at a whopping 501 Gross and 478 5/8″ Net B&C. That’s more than 13 inches larger than the previous world record, and an incredible 93 inches above the B&C’s minimum score of 385 for non-typical American elk. Folks, we have new world record!
