Big Bears in Idaho
Our Idaho black bear hunting outfitter has had some good success on bears so far this season. There are a lot of bears in Idaho, but their largest of the year is this big color phase bear that was shot over bait within 1/2 mile of the lodge.
Ray Christenson was the lucky hunter to take this great color phase bear. He has always wanted to hunt big bears in Idaho, as he had hunted whitetails in Idaho previously. He was bear hunting with his 12 year old daughter as a sidekick. He harvested this bear on the first day of their hunt after glassing and still hunting in the morning to no avail. Later in the afternoon he decided to sit on one of the bear baits at about 4:00 pm. This great black bear arrived but only 12 minutes later. Good call Ray! These pictures don’t do justice to the size of this trophy bear AT ALL!. While he was walking on all fours, his back was 6 inches higher than the bait barrel bears back while on all 4’s was about 4-6 inches higher than the bait barrel. He measures 6’4″ nose to tail and weighs approx. 375-400 pds.
