Nebraska turkey hunting on private farms for true Merriam’s Turkeys
Nebraska’s Merriam’s turkey numbers are currently at the highest population densities than they have ever been.
You have the choice of either a guided or semi-guided turkey hunt with archery or shotgun equipment (crossbows are legal).
Our shotgun Merriam turkey hunts are at a 95% success rate in the spring during the last two weeks in April and first two in May.
Late April and Early May are the best times to hunt, as they have seen that their successes come in at higher rates during that time frame.
During a fully guided hunt, guides will take the hunters out to spot and stalk, call, or utilize ground blinds. This obviously all depends on the scenario played out in the field for what tactic will be used to be successful.
You will hunt seven miles of contiguous Niobrara River frontage. Throughout this seven mile stretch of property, massive flocks of turkeys roam in flock numbers in upwards of the 200 birds per flock. Earlier in the season these birds are winter flocked and clients can see the actually high density numbers of toms.
These Nebraska turkey hunts are at a 95% success rate in the Spring during the last two weeks in April and first two in May. Archery hunts have been consistent at 69% success. You can expect a reasonable opportunity at a 20-30 lb. tom with 3/4″-1 1/4″ spurs and a 6-8″ beard.
If you are looking for a true Merriam’s turkey hunt, this is one the best as most hunts are for hybrids.
