There are two Dall sheep hunting options:

The Trophy Chugach Mountain Hunt
The trophy hunt in the Chugach is by far, without a doubt your best option for harvesting a mature, trophy Dall ram that breaks the magical 40″ mark. The kicker is that you need to apply in the draw.

The Over-The-Counter Alaska Range Hunt
The other option is the OVER-THE-COUNTER TAG base camp Dall sheep hunt in the Alaska Range. A Dall sheep hunt can be challenging and this hunt is no exception, but we don’t know of any other dall sheep hunt where you can return to camp at night and sleep in a warm cabin… you’ll appreciate that, believe us. Good physical fitness is a must on this Dall sheep hunt. You should expect to put on some miles in mountainous terrain to find that curl Dall ram, but the potential reward is worth all of the effort. If you are in good physical condition, your chances for success on a trophy ram are excellent.

This tag is guaranteed, over the counter in an area where the guide we work with has exclusive hunting rights. You should see plenty of sheep and most rams taken by this outfitter typically range between 36″-39″, with a few true trophy Dall sheep rams going 40″+. You won’t be eating Mountain House on this Dall sheep hunt. Expect warm, home-style meals at base camp.

Spot and stalk. Expect to cover lots of miles on foot and do a bunch of glassing to find the ram you are looking for.

Success Rates and Trophy Quality
The Chugach Mountains hunt will give you the chance for a trophy, mature ram that breaks the 40″ mark. The rams in the Alaska Range Base Camp Hunt are not slouches and average 36″-39″. Success rates are high for both hunts. Being in adequate shape is often the difference in your success.
