There are two hunts, a fly-in, backpack hunt in the Fall; and an “easier” Spring hunt where you can drive to camp.
In the fall, hunters will need to be able to hike up a mountain to glass for bears feeding on berries on the far side of the next mountain and then over to the next mountain to stalk the bears. You can see up to a dozen bears at one time feeding on the mountainside! The hike usually takes 3 or 4 hrs to get within shooting distance.
In the spring, hunting is done by driving to the camp and then glassing the sides of the mountains where the bears are feeding on the first fresh grass of the year. This particular hunt usually isn’t too tough as it is conducted by four wheel drive and on foot. They often spot the bears down on the valley floor so they’re relatively easy to stalk. Black bears are very numerous.
